Intervention Orders

A family violence intervention order protects a person from a family member who is using family violence. Family violence is behaviour that causes fear. It includes emotional and financial abuse, as well as physical violence and sexual abuse. You do not need to be involved in a family law dispute to get an intervention order.

The team at Calley Rajah Family Lawyers can help you apply for a family violence intervention order at your local Magistrates’ Court. We recognise that family violence is a complex matter and needs to be taken seriously.

If you need protection straight away, you can apply for an interim intervention order. If you fear for your children’s safety you can include them in your application.

Intervention orders include conditions that stop the violent family member from committing violence against you. If the violent family member does not follow the rules of the intervention order, the police can charge him or her with a criminal offence.
