Property settlement

INTRODUCTION TO PROPERTY

Once you have separated from your spouse, you will probably have questions about how is your property to be divided, what does this include, whether the superannuation accrued between you and your partner gets split, and whether your property settlement has anything to do with what arrangements which you make about your children. Married and de facto couples are treated in an almost identical manner when it comes to property division.

Decisions about how property is divided is guided by three primary considerations:

• What type of property is included?

• What has each spouse contributed to the property?

• What are the future needs of each spouse?

Our team of family law specialists will advise you about your entitlements and how to go about dividing your property.
